Shackerley is a Facades Awards finalist again!

Shackerley is a Facades Awards finalist again!

Shackerley has been shortlisted in the Facade Awards for the second consecutive year, appearing twice on the 2024 shortlist in the ‘Best use of a rainscreen system using glass, ceramic or stone’ category. Our SureClad®️ Surestone®️ facade system and technical facade manufacturing expertise have been recognised by the awards shortlist, with the New Garden Square project in Birmingham named by the judges amongst the finalists.

This complex project involves a total SureClad®️ facade area of 6636m2 across two residential buildings. Manufactured at our ISO 9001 certified factories in Lancashire, the facade includes a variety of bespoke details, including 1,995 mechanically-fixed mounted reveals, 210 vented panels, and eight pre-fabricated bird boxes, along with 5,828 3000x1200mm slab-to-slab spanning facade panels.

Shackerley worked closely with the architects to develop the design and provide advice for achieving the design intent in the most cost-effective way, while considering buildability and safety. The facade was installed by Datum Group using the full SureClad® primary support and ‘Hang On’ fixing system.

The Shackerley SureClad®️ porcelain stone cladding system has also made it onto the Facade Awards shortlist, after being installed for the facade of an extension to Blackpool’s Houndshill Shopping Centre.

This 1250m2 SureClad® porcelain stone facade, specified by architects Covell Matthews, and installed by Longworth, features our SureClad®️ porcelain stone in two contrasting colourways, complementing the heritage of the nearby Grade II* listed Blackpool Winter Gardens. The facade was manufactured at our ISO 9001 certified Lancashire factories, with installation-ready panels delivered to site in compliance with BSI – ISO TS 17870-3:2023. It was installed in partnership with Kingspan, and combines our SureClad® porcelain cladding with Kingspan’s Quadcore Karrier system as part of an insulated building envelope.

This year’s double success in making the Facade Awards shortlist follows a win last year for our Royal Warwick Square project; a prestigious residential development in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for which we manufactured a 12,500m2 SureClad® natural stone facade. We processed 27,700 pieces of stone and 6,800 bracketed returns at our factories for this project, manufacturing each limestone and granite component aligned to the installation schedules of two different cladding contractors.

Founder and Chief Executive of Shackerley, Brian G Newell MBE commented: “To have been shortlisted for two projects in this year’s Facade Awards after achieving a win last year is fantastic news, highlighting the complexity of the facades we are manufacturing and the quality of the finished result.

“Our technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities set us apart in the facade sector, enabling us to tackle large scale projects with specialist facade elements such as complex detailing, slab-to-slab XL panels for floor-to-floor seamless spans, and unitised installation. It’s brilliant to have the calibre of work we’re doing and the skills of the facade design teams and contractors showcased through these awards.”
