Brickclad® brick facade chosen for luxury Glasgow apartments

Brickclad® brick facade chosen for luxury Glasgow apartments

Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system has been chosen for the facade of Cathcart House; the Grade B listed former Scottish Power HQ located in Glasgow’s South Side, which has been redeveloped as luxury apartments.

The BrickClad® mechanically-fixed brick cladding system was an ideal solution for the refurbishment project.  Selected by building products specialist OP Systems, the BrickClad® brick facade system was chosen for  its unbeatable quality and buildability benefits, along with an attractive price point.

The transformation of the former office building into the luxury Cathcart House apartment development has been significantly enhanced by the choice of Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick facade. Specified from the BrickClad® Rustic range, the brick cladding system was installed in a red brick colourway, matching the heritage of the building’s original facade. The BrickClad® brick rainscreen system has been installed over a total facade area of 270m2.

The sold-out Cathcart House development repurposes this landmark grade B listed building while retaining many of its original features, including its distinctive red-brick exterior. Alongside the high quality, kiln-fired 215x65mm BrickClad® Rustic bricks, Shackerley supplied bonded corner bricks, our BrickClad® mechanical fixing system, and the patented and Queen’s Award winning Shackerley SureClad® substructure - providing a complete, colour-matched brick facade solution for the project.

Shackerley’s BrickClad® rustic brick cladding is ideal for projects with heritage in mind. The BrickClad® Rustic brick facade range enables specifiers to choose the authentic colour and texture of conventional brick, which combines the buildability benefits of a mechanically fixed cladding system with the hard-wearing and aesthetic advantages of traditional brick. The patented BrickClad® brick carrier cassette for the Shackerley BrickClad® brick facade system has been expertly designed by our in-house technical team and is manufactured at our ISO 9001 factories in Lancashire. It is produced by roll-forming the BrickClad® cassette rails using 0.7mm thick Magnelis-coated steel or stainless steel, which is 40% thicker than some other similar systems, providing unbeatable strength, performance and corrosion resistance for your brick cladding installation.

Our BrickClad® Rustic brick facades are available in a variety of colours and textures, with design options that can be complemented by our range of BrickClad® brick facade pointing mortar. Shackerley’s pointing mortars have been developed especially for use with our mechanically-fixed brick facades and are designed for application by gun injection, ensuring an easy, straight-forward installation every time.

The natural beauty and warmth of our Brickclad® brick facades made our Brickclad® brick rainscreen system the perfect choice for Cathcart House, one of Glasgow’s most distinctive buildings, designed by famed Scottish architect Sir John James Burnet and completed in 1916. Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding allows the building to retain the best of the original factory aesthetic while bringing it right up to date. The project highlights the versatility of the Shackerley BrickClad® brick facade system for heritage and contemporary projects alike.

Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system for brick facades

Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system is an ideal alternative to external brickslip cladding for any project that requires a brick facade. Brick is a traditional construction material in the UK and the BrickClad® brick rainscreen system enables the construction of a brick facade using an innovative mechanical brick cladding installation system. This means that a brick facade can be achieved faster, but unlike brickslip systems, BrickClad® uses genuine kiln-fired clay bricks, providing brick cladding that look and feels like traditional brick facade construction. With BrickClad®, Shackerley provides the benefits of mechanical brick facade installation and the consistency of a brick rainscreen, while offering brick cladding with the aesthetics of traditional brick.

Installation for our mechanical fixed brick facade involves insertion of each brick into BrickClad® Magnelis/Stainless steel cassettes. Each mechanical brick is secured inside the cassette by its unique BrickClad® profile and is pointed with BrickClad® lime brick pointing mortar.

Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding answers the non-combustible cladding requirements of BS EN13501-1. Our brick facade system is an A1 rated rainscreen.
