Shackerley brings BrickClad® ‘Saxony’ brick facade range to Salford
Shackerley’s BrickClad® mechanically fixed brick cladding system has been installed at Regent Plaza, a showpiece residential development in Salford comprising 525 apartments across five blocks.
The BrickClad® brick cladding installation has now been completed on the phase one brick facade project, with 3000 m2 of Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding used on block B. A further 3000 m2 of BrickClad® brick cladding will soon be installed on Block C, with materials already arriving on site ready for facade installation.
The project’s developer, Sourced Development Group, selected Shackerley’s BrickClad® mechanically fixed brick cladding system following a stipulation from the local planning authority that a mechanically fixed brick facade would be required. It needed to be a brick facade that is installed without the use of any adhesives or sealants and, as Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system is entirely mechanically fixed using the unique BrickClad® high-grade, structural-steel brick cassette profiles, The BrickClad® brick cladding system was an ideal solution.
The bricks for the brick cladding project at Regent Plaza were chosen following multiple client visits to Shackerley’s ISO 9001 certified Lancashire factories. A mixture of three blends from the new Brickclad® Saxony Hesselberg brick facade range was chosen to create eye-catching variation on the facade while leveraging the traditional beauty of a brick facade. The BrickClad® Saxony Hesselberg range has been developed specifically to enhance the aesthetics and textural appeal of a brick facade with the rustic properties of a high-quality, handmade brick, while providing the installation and consistency advantages of a mechanically fixed brick cladding system.
To install the BrickClad® mechanically fixed brick facade system, BrickClad® steel cassette channels are fixed to Shackerley’s SureClad® primary support framework and the BrickClad® bricks are fitted with the help of a rubber mallet to locate and lock the bricks into the cassette to create the facade. The installation is completed with BrickClad® lime/sand gun applied pointing mortar.

Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system for brick facades
Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system is an ideal alternative to external brickslip cladding for any project that requires a brick facade. Brick is a traditional construction material in the UK and the BrickClad® brick rainscreen system enables the construction of a brick facade using an innovative mechanical brick cladding installation system. This means that a brick facade can be achieved faster, but unlike brickslip systems, BrickClad® uses genuine kiln-fired clay bricks, providing brick cladding that look and feels like traditional brick facade construction. With BrickClad®, Shackerley provides the benefits of mechanical brick facade installation and the consistency of a brick rainscreen, while offering brick cladding with the aesthetics of traditional brick.
Installation for our mechanical fixed brick facade involves insertion of each brick into BrickClad® Magnelis/Stainless steel cassettes. Each mechanical brick is secured inside the cassette by its unique BrickClad® profile and is pointed with BrickClad® lime brick pointing mortar.
Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding answers the non-combustible cladding requirements of BS EN13501-1. Our brick facade system is an A1 rated rainscreen.
