The Royal Warwick Square residential project for which Shackerley provided our SureClad® natural stone facade system has been shortlisted in this year’s Facade Awards.
The Facade Awards are the greatest accolade for the UK facade sector, recognising excellence in all aspects of facade design, specification, manufacturing and installation. Considering facade projects and professionals across 12 categories, along with an ‘RCI project of the year’ award chosen from the winners, the Facade Awards highlight the variety and technical challenges involved in facade projects.
Shackerley’s shortlisted entry is for a residential development by St Edward, part of the Berkeley Group, located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We manufactured installation-ready - 30mm thick SureClad® limestone cladding panels for a total facade area of 12,500m2 for the Royal Warwick Square project at our ISO 9001 certified factories in Lancashire. The natural stone facade demanded 27,700 pieces of stone, and the facade manufacturing requirements included 6,800 bracketed returns.
The large-format 1200 x 600mm SureClad® limestone cladding panels supplied for the project were just 30mm thick, enabling design flexibility for the buildings’ structure, while providing a proven natural stone cladding system in-keeping with the facades for the previous phases of the development.
The Shackerley limestone facade complements the architectural context of the West London location and we also manufactured feature panels in SureClad® natural granite. Our factories manufactured all the natural stone cladding panels aligned to the installation schedules of the two cladding contractors, and dispatched them to site on a just-in-time basis. They were then installed using our SureClad® undercut anchored heavy-duty Hang On system onto our SureClad® primary support system, which is ideally suited for use with natural stone cladding panels.
Founder and Chief Executive of Shackerley, Brian G Newell MBE, commented: “Being shortlisted for the Facade Award in the ‘Best use of a rainscreen system using glass, ceramics or stone’ category recognises the technical challenges of this complex project. It is also testament to our achievements in manufacturing such a large volume of natural stone cladding panels to the highest quality standards, co-ordinating with the installation programmes of two facade contractors, as well as the requirements of the developer/main contractor. We are very proud of the project and the exceptional design and performance values of the finished natural stone facade on the completed building.”
