Shackerley’s Royal Warwick Square Crowned Winner at Facade Awards UK 2023
Royal Warwick Square, an outstanding residential development by St Edward, part of the Berkeley Group, has won the “Best Use of a Rainscreen System Using Glass, Ceramic, or Stone” award in the Facade Awards UK, for its Shackerley SureClad® natural stone facade.
Shackerley manufactured and supplied installation-ready SureClad® natural stone facade panels at our ISO 9001-certified Lancashire factories for a total facade area of 12,500 m2 for the development in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The majority of the facade was specified a honed, creamy-coloured SureClad® natural limestone, with grey feature panels in SureClad® natural granite. We processed 27,700 pieces of stone and 6,800 bracketed returns for the project, manufacturing each component aligned to the installation schedules of the two cladding contractors involved in the project.
The client required a Euroclass A1 or A2 s1-d0 to BS EN 13501-1 facade to meet compliance requirements for residential developments of 18m high or more. The large-format 1200x600mm SureClad® natural stone facade panels installed delivered an A1 non-combustible facade, and the 30mm thick cladding panels were installed using the SureClad® Hang On fixing system.
Founded by Roofing, Cladding & Insulation (RCI) magazine, the Facade Awards are the top accolade for the facade industry, and Shackerley’s entry for Royal Warwick Square was one of just thirteen winners across a variety of categories.
Founder and Chief Executive of Shackerley, Brian G Newell MBE commented: “We are delighted to have won this award for this fantastic project. We were able to deliver a stunning facade for St Edward, with A1 fire safety credentials and precision-manufactured details for a large-scale project involving two facade contractors.
“The client was aiming for a best-in-class development, and we were able to meet all their criteria for testing and certification, while aligning the processing of 27,700 pieces of stone and 6,800 bracketed returns to the installation schedule. We are very proud of the calibre of the finished facade and to have won this accolade at the Facade Awards UK 2023, which reaffirms our status as a leader in the facades sector.”
