How is BrickClad® brick cladding made ?

Shackerley is known as a leading UK cladding manufacturer. Our ISO 9001 certified façade factories in Lancashire set the standard for quality-assured UK cladding manufacturing. Our BrickClad® ranges leverage our experience, along with relationships with trusted specialist partners who produce our BrickClad® bricks to our specification, resulting in an outstanding façade solution, in terms of performance, buildability, safety, fire resistance, and aesthetics.

All of the bricks we supply for our BrickClad® cladding system are made from natural clays and are extruded to EN 11441 standards. This means that your project can benefit from a façade built using genuine traditional brick, while also taking advantage of the speed, ease, and consistency of a mechanically fixed brick rainscreen installation, and the performance of a ventilated façade.

All special pieces (corners)for our BrickClad®️ brick façade system are made to order at Shackerley’s Lancashire factories, drawing on our processing expertise. The rails for our BrickClad®️ brick cladding are also formed by Shackerley at our factories, using our bespoke, advanced machinery.

How bricks are made for the BrickClad® brick cladding system

Step 1 – selecting the brick cladding materials

All the bricks we supply as part of our BrickClad® brick cladding system made from quality clays, used for generations in brick production.

Step 2 – processing for brick quality

The raw clays we select for our BrickClad® brick cladding system are crushed to remove air and inclusions. The plasticised clay is further treated in a vacuum chamber to remove residual air.

Step 3 - Extrusion

The prepared clays are extruded at high pressure through special dies to form the BrickClad® brick cladding profile.

Step 4 - Drying

The BrickClad® cladding system bricks are placed in heat-controlled chambers to reduce any residual moisture ready for the bricks to be fired.

Step 5 - Firing

The bricks for our BrickClad® brick cladding system are loaded onto kiln carts for transition through state-of-the-art kilns, where temperatures of up to 1260 ℃ irrevocably fuse the raw clay molecules to form impervious and highly-durable BrickClad® bricks.

Making the mechanical fixing system for our BrickClad® brick cladding

The mechanical fixing system used to install BrickClad® brick façades is unique to Shackerley. It was developed by our in-house experts to deliver the quality, buildability, safety and performance you would expect from Shackerley.

We manufacture the mechanical fixing system for our brick cladding ranges at our ISO 9001 certified factories in Lancashire, combining the familiar SureClad® brackets from our Queen’s Award-winning SureClad® façade systems with a custom-engineered BrickClad® cassette installation profile, which ensures every brick is secured in place.

We use 0.7mm thick Magnelis coated, or stainless steel to manufacture the mechanical fixing system for our BrickClad® brick cladding system. Using steel materials 40% thicker than most brick façade fixing systems to ensure that the BrickClad® brick cladding system offers enhanced durability, safety, and service life.
